On The Run (我很忙) (wo hen mang)

On The Run (我很忙) (wo hen mang)

Release Date: 1st November 2007

Overall Rating: Rating Stars

Jay Chou's eighth album, this album marks a significant change in style for Jay Chou. For the first time he experiments with country music, using it in his title track "Cowboy Is Very Busy". However he still persists with his own style for the rest of the album. This album more than any other reflects Jay Chou's life.

Jay Chou on the run/ I'm very busy
This is a good album although not containing a certain theme displays a wide variety of styles and genres.

1. 牛仔很忙 (Cowboy Is Very Busy)
When I first heard the song, I had a similar feeling to katerina. Sounded a bit childish and playful. However after playing it a few more times I could relate to the carefree nature of the song and appreciated Jay's change of genre
2. 彩虹 (Rainbow) (cai hong)
Cai hong for those who have not heard the secret OST, some tunes have been borrowed from it but nevertheless the song is still enjoyable and has a feel of familiarity.
3. 青花瓷 (Chinese Flower Pot)
Nice addition to the Jay Zhong guo feng collection.
4. 陽光宅男 (Sunshine Homeboy)
An upbeat song with a good summer feel to it
5. 蒲公英的約定 (Dandelion's Promise)
Another song which used some tunes from the OST. Same feel of familiarity for those who watched the movie.
6. 無雙 (Unparalleled)
Good rock song with impact. Sounds a bit like Linkin park and the start the way Jay utilises his voice with an echo. At about 3 min there is a wierd yet amusing little middle east/indian tune. :)
7. 我不配 (I'm Not Worthy)
Possibly the best song in the whole album. In the same skin and nice lounge beat like Lang Man shou ji (romantic cellphone)
8. 扯 (Pull)
A hiphop/dance/techno song. Nice beat. Makes you want to dance. The rap bit part is awesome! I wish there was more in that song! :D
9. 甜甜的 (Sweet)
Title describes it all. Sweet! Very cute with a easy to follow beat
10. 最長的電影 (The Longest Movie)
Nice slow song

Overall the album is great. Jay did a good job considering he was so busy, being the owner of his new company JVC and filming kung fu dunk. I hope nxt year he will get more time to focus his energy to create an even better album

Overall, I was very impressed with the fresh sound and the creativity. When others criticized Jay for not changing his style, I was always very confused. I thought he was very diverse already. But this album truly proved the extent of his creativity. My review may be sketchy because his lyrics are always nicely written, and I have yet to read the lyrics. My Mandarin isn't sufficient enough to interpret most of his mumbling (though I love the mumbling).

Track 1 - On the Run / Cowboy is Very Busy: I'll admit, when I first heard this song I was "appalled." The music video brought a smile to my face though. I'm not quite sure if I like the country sound, but it sure is different! Anything Jay Chou sings grows on me. This song is definitely catchy. 2.5/5

Track 2 - Rainbow: My favorite song on the album. Perhaps I am biased because I enjoyed the music video so much, but it really has a refreshing sound. Even though it's a slow song, I feel that it sounds much different than anything else he's sung. It almost has a Simple Love-esque tone to it, but it stands on its own. I love the small rap he does at the end, even if i t is much like the one in "Qing Tian / Cloudless Day." From what I could read in the blurry music video, the lyrics are nicely written. I really recommend watching the video; it is one of his best. The last time I felt such a great propensity toward a song was when I heard "Ai Zai Xi Yuan Qian / Love in BC." 5/5

Track 3 - Porcelain: This song slipped me by the first time I heard it, but when I re-listened to it, I grew to like it. Very much like "Fa Ru Xue" and "East Wind Breaks," Jay Chou does an excellent job fusing traditional Chinese music with modern music. I don't know why, but my favorite part of the song is the key change near the end. Not particularly memorable, but a good song nonetheless. 3.5/5

Track 4 - Sunshine Boy: I was a bit amused by the title of this song. I really like the upbeat tone--it made me want to dance. I really like the piano music in the background, which is perhaps the first thing I always notice in Jay's music. Well, this song is sure to cheer you up! 4/5

Track 5 - Dandelion's Promise: This is one of the songs I wish I could read the lyrics to. I'm trying to listen to it a few times in an attempt to comprehend, but I figure it's a song deep with meaning. A ballad, which I enjoy, but have trouble critiquing because they blur in my mind. It reminded me of "Tui Hou" from Still Fantasy. Again, I really liked the piano part. 3.5/5

Track 6 - Unparalleled: My next favorite song. Perhaps I am drawn to fast-paced songs. Again, I really enjoyed the piano and violin interlude. It gave this song a mystic quality. Although it reminded me of "Reverse Scales" and even "Twilight's Chapter Seven," it is clearly very different. I thought the rap was a very nice touch, it kept the beat going. I feel a lot of "power" in this song, if that makes any sense. 5/5

Track 7 - I'm Not Worthy: Very reminiscent of his first album. Very lounge-music-ish. Something you can relax to and enjoy. 5/5

Track 8 - Tear / Push (?): I believe in all of Jay Chou's albums, there is always dialogue in one of his songs. This song has a nice beat, a very typical Jay Chou song. It has a child's voice in throughout, which is similar to what he did in many of his previous songs (like "Wai Po"). This song also reminded me of American music, especially with the prevalent beat throughout the song. 3.5/5

Track 9 - Sweet: Not especially memorable, but enjoyable anyway. It's a cutesy song, almost like "Yuan You Hui" from Qi Li Xiang. 4/5

Track 10 - The Longest Movie: Another slow ballad. I thought it was a fairly depressing way to end the album, though it's a great song. It has a nice piano part that reminded me of "An Jing / Silence" in a way. A very dramatic song. 3/5

Although a lot of the songs on this album reminded me of previous songs, they are still creative in their own way. All I can say is: give this album a listen and decide for yourself, it's worth it.

Total: 42.5/50

Overall Jay 8th ablum,On The Run was solid...though i think stil fantasy was better than on the run.In his latest ablum,he tried new sound ,style and music. Here is the review for all the tracks:-

Track 1-In this song Jay again showcases his creativity of him.It sounded like old school music but Jay tried to blend it with his own style of music. In the end,the song is not that bad.The song also sounded cheeky and has a country sound to it.

Track 2-I actually do not like this slow song. The starting part was okay but as the song drags on,it started to get bored. It also has a fast part in it which spoiled the beat of the song.

Track 3-Jay has did it again. From east wind breaks to hair like snow and now to chinese flower pot,Jay has brillantly combined chinese music with western sound. But it falls short to hair like snow in terms of vocal power.Overall it is a solid song.

Track 4-This songs seems to lights things up.The beat of the song was nice and quite fast tempo. This is a typical song by Jay as it is very smooth and sleek throughout the song.

Track 5-This is another Jay slow song.He showed his vocal brillance in the song.I liked the music too.It feels really smoothing and relaxing.

Track 6-He combines pop and rock in this song. The beat of the song was very heavy. But he sounded quite different in the song.I liked this song though.

Track 7-It sounded a lot like Jay past songs.Jay uses his unique voice and great music to create a good song.I liked the chorus of the song which is really nice.

Track 8-This is simply the best song in the ablum.Simply loves it.This song showcases Jay trademark rap.He also uses different sounds of his which he effortlessly fuse. The music will just make u dance. There is a girl singing in the song which adds to the brillance of it.

Track 9-The title and song look alike to the song Maltose. It is a upbeat song.It has a very cheeky feel to it.Another Jay great style of music.

Track 10-The last song of the ablum...To end this ablum he sings this slow song.It is a very slow song.It was slow at the start but he picked up the tempo in the chorus. It is a sad song which ends this ablum quite nicely.
