Not only are songs sung by Jay Chou popular in Mainland China, the lyrics of the songs he sings have become loved by Mainland China students and are cited as "famous words of famous people".
The 21st middle school composition competition for students just finished in Shanghai, Mainland China, the results showed that Mainland China students favour using Jay Chou's lyrics as the discussion point of an essay, for example a piece about missing grandpa, cites the lyrics of Jay Chou's song "The Tea Grandpa Makes", a piece about missing grandma also used the same style of writing.
The others, like Jay Chou's "Chrysanthemum Flower Bed", "Chinese Flower Pot" which have an ancient poetic flavour also appeared in students' work, in 1000 pieces of work from students, Tao Yuan Ming's poems were used 28 times, Jay Chou's lyrics appeared 24 times, his position in the hearts of Mainland China students is fast overtaking poems from Tang and Song dynasties.
Along with Jay Chou, there were also sports star Liu Xiang, NBA stars, footballs stars, Jolin Tsai, Angela Zhang, Wilber Pan, Fish Leong, Han Geng and more who were mentioned by students. The work reveals the inner feelings and respect students have for these stars.
