Jay Chou takes lessons before playing a general

by kelvin@multistars - 14th March 2006

Yesterday Jay already arrived at Beijing to play a great general in the Tang dynasty "City Full Of Golden Armour", he wasn't welcomed by the soldiers and the palace maids but instead he was first surrounded by a group of teachers.

He woke up before 9am yesterday and went straight to the set, he was very professional. In the movie, Jay plays a deep scheming great general, the second prince Yuan Chao with a complicated past, he grew up in amidst hatred. Just his makeup took one hour and thirty minutes; Jay was very satisfied with the finished effect. So how much does all this "Golden Armour" cost? The answer is about TW$1 million.

The producer of "City Full Of Golden Armour", Zhang Wei Ping accepted a radio interview in Beijing in which he expressed that as soon as Jay arrived in Beijing, he immediately met with the director Zhang Yi Mou, the two discussed about the role. Zhang Yi Mou hired a dialogue teacher, action teacher, make up teacher, etc... for Jay, getting Jay into the movie as fast as possible.

Zhang Wei Ping says that Zhang Yi Mou is very satisfied with Jay's physical agility and health, he will consider the actual situation with his body and consider the needed martial arts action scenes in the movie. The action guide Cheng Xiao Dong has also made arrangements for Jay.

Apart from unleashing his acting and martial arts, Jay's music will not be forgotten in "City Full Of Golden Armour". Zhang Wei Ping confirmed that Jay would produce and sing the ending song which will be full of Chinese flavour and that matches the movie's background and spirit. Will he also participate with the accompany music of the movie? At the moment they are still discussing it.

Alfa Music, the company Jay belongs to, has expressed that Jay views this time's collaboration with Zhang Yi Mou, Chow Yun Fat and Gong Li as very important. Jay has not let people see the pressure he is under but he expressed that he will do his best. Jay only brought two suitcases with him, his mother did not come with him but instead general manager Mr Yeung came along to look after him. At the moment Beijing is still very cold, but Jay has a lot of experience since he has come to Mainland China to hold concerts many times last year, it should be no problem for him to adapt to the weather there.

It has been estimated that Jay will stay in Beijing until the end of the month for his first filming work, but the whole filming process will take almost two months. Even though lots of Mainland China movie companies want to buy the rights to "City Full Of Golden Armour", but producer Jiang Zhi Qiang has not signed with any of the companies at the moment.
