Initial D Japan Press Conference
by kelvin@multistars - 30th June 2004

Yesterday Media Asia held a press conference for the racing movie "Initial D" in Century Hyatt Hotel in Tokyo, Jay was very cool in the press conference and even called the director Andrew Lau a "clown", he was the opposite of Edison Chen who was laughing all the time. And Anthony Wong, who actors call "professor", complemented Jay as a child prodigy of acting; the two have a lot of feeling towards acting.
This movie is the biggest investment Hong Kong Media Asia films have made in their history, they may also be increasing the budget to US$15,000,000. They will be using bought cars for all of the racing cars, director Andrew Lau is also a curio car lover, he and Jay got on well straight away, that's why Jay courageously said he was crazy in the press conference, completely nothing like what Edison said he was "very solemn", he described the other director Alan Mak as very serious.
The Japanese press thought that Jay was a big star who had acted in many movies, yesterday he said smiling: "Watching movies is my inspiration in making music, but making music is dependant on yourself, now I know that filming movies needs a lot of people to complete it, it is a very special experience."
How is Jay's acting? He said smiling that in the past when he filmed MVs, he was like brothers with the directors, they just mess about, Anthony Wong said: "Jay has no technique in acting, but he has self awareness, it is a very direct reflection, I don't meet little kids like this very often, he can change with me, he is a bit like me, often not knowing what he's thinking of normally, a strange person, that's why acting with him, it's full of feeling."
Jay plays Takumi Fujiwara in "Initial D", a youngster who trains his racing skills everyday when he delivers tofu down a hill for his father, in the movie Jay races depending on his feeling, Edison, who strongly invites him to join the race team, has the skill of technology. Jay and Edison, ect... have already been filming mountain racing on the famous mountain Gunma, he has to perform Takumi Fujiwara's signature "drifting tail".
When Jay was filming in Gunma, he loved to go out on the streets the most, he mentioned in the press conference that he hadn't started to practise racing, he said: "I need to thank the paparazzi in Taiwan, making my driving skills better and better." This phrase caused everyone to laugh.
Jay's cute little girlfriend Natsuki Mogi in the movie is played by Japanese new generation female star Anne Suzuki. But Anne Suzuki has only joined the filming for a short two days, really "unfamiliar" with Jay, they were a bit awkward when they sat together. "I will certainly try my best to learn English, work hard to culture feelings with everyone!"
The whole movie will be filmed at the famous mountain in Gunma of Japan, it is estimated the filming will be finished by this year autumn and it will be released summer of next year.
