Influential Chinese people, Jay Chou gets in the chart

by kelvin@multistars - 11th April 2007

The Royal English think tank centre in London that researches International Studies, a few days ago announced the "Top 50 Influential Modern Chinese People Chart", China national president Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao took first and second place, President Chen Shuibian (5th) and popular artist Jay Chou (38th) were also in the chart. The others include Hong Kong rich businessman Li Ka Shing (3rd) and Dalai Lama (15th), etc... even the foreign chairman of Microsoft Bill Gates (9th) is also an important person who has influenced modern China.

According to the reports from the BBC Chinese, this list of top 50 influential people, is mainly arranged by their influence on Chinese society and their fame.

The author Brown admits that this list has many limitations, for example the thread of power in China and the concealed and opaque web of power, these have increased the difficulty of the production.

The fact that two Taiwanese people Chen Shuibian and Jay Chou have got into the chart shows the close association of the two shores in terms of politics and education.

Apart from this, Brown expressed, the fact that Bush and Gates are in the chart, reflects the changes of China's international relationships. The main smuggling suspect Lai Changxing (30th) from Fuzhou, got into the chart because of his fame, he has become the only criminal in the chart, Dalai Lama got in because of his religion's influence.
