Director Chou's "East Wind Breaks", black singer releases pirate album

by kelvin@multistars - 7th November 2006

How popular is Jay? Even black singers will sing his songs, not just that but singing an English cover! An African sing from Liberia called Uwechue Emmanuel sang English cover versions of Jay's "Hair Like Snow" and "East Wind Breaks" in his album "Red and Black", but Alfa Music expressed that they have not authorised these two songs to be used by others. Thus, Uwechue Emmanuel's English covers are in fact infringing on copyright.

Uwechue Emmanuel participated in CCTV's "Star Boulevard" singing contest, he won second place and signed with a record company, he will release an album next year. But, before he became famous he signed with a Mainland China record company, releasing "Red and Black", there are 14 songs in it including David Tao's "10:30 At The Airport", Amei Zhang's "Cut Love" and Leehom Wang's "A Mistake In The Flower Festival".

Among them Jay's "Hair Like Snow" and "East Wind Breaks", not only did Uwechue Emmanuel sing the Chinese versions, he also sang the English versions, in fact the melody is practically the same, he also sang some Chinese in the English version "The bronze mirror reflects no evils, tie a ponytail...".

Jay expressed that a lot of artists are singing cover songs, he hopes one day, foreign artists will sing covers of his songs, or get him to write some songs, the only thing is that this time Uwechue Emmanuel has not gotten the copyrights properly, Jay must have mixed feelings.

Yesterday Alfa Music requested confirmation that there is such an album, if it does infringe copyright, they will deal with it through the law.
